The following side effects may go away as your body becomes used to the medicine; check with your doctor if they continue or become bothersome.
More common:
- drowsiness
- dizziness, lightheadedness
- dry mouth, nose, or throat
Less common or rare:
- blurred vision or any change in vision
- clumsiness or unsteadiness (mild to moderate)
- confusion
- constipation
- difficulty passing urine
- excitement (especially in children)
- fatigue
- weakness
- cough
- thickening of mucous
- nausea
- vomiting
Contact your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:
Less common or rare:
Some people may experience side effects other than those listed. Check with your doctor if you notice any symptom that worries you while you are taking this medication.
Are there any other precautions or warnings for this medication?
Alcohol: Alcohol may increase side effects such as sedation with dimenhydrinate and should be avoided when using this medication.
Occupational hazards: Dimenhydrinate may impair the mental or physical abilities needed for activities such as driving a car or operating machinery. Alcohol and other sedating drugs may increase the risk of sedation with dimenhydrinate. Caution should be taken when undertaking any activities requiring alertness.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking dimenhydrinate if you are pregnant or breast-feeding or are planning to become pregnant, or breast-feed.
Seniors: Seniors may be more sensitive to the effects of this medication
